Dr. Polisky and Elk Grove Dermatology are featured in the northwest suburbs Suburban Woman January/February 2012 issue with the following article, Dr. Polisky Continues Advanced Training.

Dr. Robert Polisky of Elk Grove Dermatology traveled to St. Louis for a course in “Advanced Facial Surgery and Fat Transfer” earlier this month. Seven surgeons from around the country took the hands-on seminar at the office of Dr. Mike Nayak. Here are some observations Dr. Polisky made after attending the two-day course:
1. Downtime is the key concern of patients throughout the country when they investigate cosmetic procedures. Balancing a speedy hassle free recovery with significant improvement is the challenge we discussed at the break sessions at Dr. Nayak’s surgical center.
2. Global correction of facial aging begins with a carefully performed consultation. This can be further enhanced by good photographic technique.
3. The latest and most advanced procedures were compared with standard or classic methods. We all had an opportunity to share ideas from our own practice.
4. Fillers and their optimal use were discussed and demonstrated.
This stimulating session helped us at Elk Grove Dermatology focus on four things we are doing for our patients cosmetic needs:
1. Work on a highly significant procedure with 2-7 days of downtime depending on the depth of lasering. The CO2RE™ has shown excellent results and high patient satisfaction in our first year of use.
2. Dr. Polisky’s artistic consultation focuses on balance and correction of complementary facial subunits. In plain English, striving to have different areas of the face in proper proportion with each other.
3. Using his 20 years of experience, Dr. Polisky is comparing standards such as the Obagi Blue Peel®, classic CO2 laser and Smoothbeam™ laser with newer modalities. He is looking for a clear, safe advantage for you.
4. Dr. Polisky pioneered the use of Restylane®, Juvéderm®, Radiesse®, Sculptra® and neuromodulators like Botox®, Dysport® and Xeomin®. Through rigorous study and reevaluation he has come up with some superior injection techniques for customized skin improvement.
The meeting was outstanding! There were plastic surgeons, dermatology fellows and even oculplastic physicians. Still, I left feeling great to be in dermatology. Dermatology brings a unique perspective to the skin and a great understanding not just of the capabilities for improvement, but also the limits of therapy. I hope you will call on us if you need a review of your skins’ appearance.

An important part of Elk Grove Dermatology is Dr. Polisky’s dedication to teaching medical students about dermatology. He has had students of Chicago Medical School and the Physician Assistant program of Midwest University come to the office for a rigorous and structured dermatology rotation. The rotation has received excellent reviews by the students. Read the thank you notes from two of Dr. Polisky’s latest students.
I want to tell the readers about two good articles regarding recently rated sunscreens. Consumer Reports, July 2011 and Bicycling Magazine did nice pieces on the topic of sun protection.

Studies have pointed out the value of sun protection, especially in preventing non-melanoma skin cancer. Common sense suggests using the SPF (sun protection factor) as a guide for your skin type, activity level and type of activity. A 15 will screen out 93% of ultraviolet B and a 30 takes you to 97%. This slim improvement is very valuable for the fair-skinned lifeguard or person with a personal or family history of skin cancer. A block such as titanium or zinc oxide adds UVA protection, which not that long ago wasn’t even considered that important! This is why you need to stay informed on all things dermatology related. The key to staying on top of sun safety is having your sunscreen available at all times. Cloudy days are dangerously deceptive, which makes it easy to burn.
